I had the pleasure to talk to Iva G. on the link between nervous system safety and our creative projects and businesses.
We both identified that the state of our nervous system plays a key role in our ability to move toward what we want—be it growth, success, ease, or pleasure.
The reason we often remain stuck simply because our body does not perceive these desires as safe, but rather, as a threat. This makes it so that action and movement feel inaccessible or daunting.
But moving towards the things we want in a way that feels sustainable and even enjoyable is possible—when we learn to work with the wisdom of our bodies.
Rather than pushing through resistance or trying to make quantum leaps overnight, we can work to build capacity and tolerance for discomfort and unfamiliarity.
For those stuck in a freeze response (and let’s face it, who isn’t these days?), including its more subtle form—functional freeze (appearing productive but feeling numb, unmotivated, or disconnected)—the path forward isn’t radical action, but gentle, consistent movement.
This might involve:
Tuning in to what feels tolerable now, rather than forcing big steps.
Honouring resistance as communication from the body, not an obstacle to override.
Regulating the nervous system in real time, using tools like movement, sensory grounding, or breath—not just cognitive awareness.
Reframing transformation as something that happens over time, through safety and embodiment, not mental willpower or hustle.
Gradual shifts help "melt" the freeze response, allowing deeper capacities—such as pleasure, confidence, and authentic expression—to emerge naturally.
This approach makes is so that we move forward from a place of inspiration and genuine desire, in integrity with our bodies’ needs and capacities.
Iva also goes on to talk about how we can calibrate our systems to step into the bigger visions of our lives, should we choose to do so.
Now over to you: how do you experience change and moving towards your desires in your life?
